What Does Watermelon With Mustard Taste Like? Watch To Find Out! [VIDEO]
Weird food combinations. We’ve all heard of them, but how many of us have been brave enough to actually try them? Well, my son and I decided to take a jump straight into the deep end.
Whenever I think of weird food combinations, I think of pregnancy cravings. When I was pregnant, I craved peeled cucumbers rolled in taco seasoning which is pretty tame compared to what some of my fellow mamas tell me they craved. If my doctor would have let me, I could have lived on nothing but fresh vegetables, Mexican, and Thai foods my entire pregnancy.
I've heard it said that what a mother eats during her pregnancy will influence her child's palate when they get older. I don't know if this is true or not, but I do have a little boy who is just as obsessed with fresh vegetables, Mexican, and Thai food as I was when he was growing inside of me.
My family loves to spend time together in the kitchen learning about new ways to enjoy food as well as the history and ethnicity behind various dishes. At six-years-old, my son's favorite breakfast dish is a Middle Eastern one called shakshuka which is proof that he's not scared to try flavors or different combinations. When friends sent us a viral food trend involving watermelon and mustard, I knew my son would be up for trying it and I was, too.
TikTok user yayayayummy uploaded a video showing a slice of watermelon slathered in mustard and challenged others to give it a try. So, we did.
The vinegar from the mustard mixes beautifully with the sweetness of the watermelon. It’s hard to describe exactly what it tastes like, but it reminded me a bit of my pregnancy craving of cucumber and taco seasoning. Sweet and tangy. A lovely combination, really.
What did my son think of the combination? Well, I suggest you watch these videos of my son trying mustard on his watermelon in the order I've shared them and I hope they make you chuckle the way they made me.
If you're not quite brave enough to try watermelon with mustard, maybe take a baby step and try watermelon with a little bit of salt. That combination is also excellent. Oh, and if you have a favorite strange food combination that you think my son and I should try, let me know about it by sending an email to Traci.Taylor@Townsquaremedia.com.
