Classic Rock Throwback Thursday – 1968
1968.
I was in the middle of 7th grade in a new/much bigger school, having just transferred from a small town.
Surprisingly, I fit in quite easily and formed some great friendships during those middle school years.
Now that I think about it, those years were kind of like the episodes in the TV sitcom, 'The Wonder Years', except we didn't have a Winnie Cooper in our group.
Bummer.
In 1968, the Vietnam War continued in full force, the North Vietnamese and Vietcong launched the Tet Offensive in January, unemployment was 3.8%, President Johnson announced he will not seek renomination, Martin Luther King, Jr. was slain in Memphis on April 4th and Robert F Kennedy was killed in Los Angeles on June 6th.
In sports, Green Bay beat Oakland 33 to 14 in the Superbowl, Detroit defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 4 games to 3 in the World Series, Boston dominated the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Championships 4 games to 2 and Montreal shut out Saint Louis 4 games to 0 in the Stanley Cup Finals.
