Binghamton - Broome County

A portion of State Street North in Binghamton will close beginning Wednesday, August 19, at 9 a.m. as part of the first phase of the Binghamton 363 Gateway Project. The closure will extend from the northbound side of the State Street Bridge to Susquehanna Street and is expected to remain in place for approximately three months while crews remove an existing concrete median barrier, install underground drainage and utility crossings, and place new pavement at State Route 434/State Street.
Route 434 eastbound traffic heading into Binghamton via the State Street Bridge will be reduced from three lanes to one, with motorists directed onto a signed detour beginning at the existing cloverleaf off-ramp.
Southbound motorists leaving downtown Binghamton will continue to have access to the State Street Bridge; however, traffic will be reduced to one lane.

Towns of Vestal & Union - Broome County

One of the most current road work changes from the New York State Department of Transportation includes traffic impacts due to major bridge work on State Route 17 in the Towns of Vestal and Union.

Single-lane traffic is in effect in both directions of New York Route 17 between Exits 67 and 69 through the end of the 2026 construction season while crews replace bridge approach slabs on four bridges.
In addition, the Exit 68 eastbound off-ramp and the New York Route 26 northbound and southbound ramps to New York Route 17 eastbound are closed. A signed detour is in place directing motorists via New York Route  434 (Vestal Parkway).

Here are a few upcoming projects to be aware of that may impact your commute.

Town of Owego - Tioga County

The New York State Department of Transportation has announced that the westbound on- and off-ramps at Exit 64 on Interstate 86 in the Town of Owego, Tioga County, will be closed from 6 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19th through September 4th for ramp replacement work.

Motorists will need to follow signed detours, utilizing the Interstate 86 Exit 65 westbound on- and off-ramps.

Town of Sanford - Broome County

State Route 41 in the vicinity of Thorn Hill Road in the Town of Sanford, Broome County, will be closed to all traffic on Thursday, August 20, to facilitate a culvert replacement. The full closure is expected to last up to 48 hours, weather permitting, and then the roadway will be limited to a single lane with alternating flows of traffic controlled by temporary signals for approximately four weeks.
During the full closure, a signed detour route will be in place directing travelers to State Route 17, State Route 79, and Interstate 88.
