When Employees Talk Politics at Work: Is It Actually Okay or No?

Politics. They're everywhere. And by everywhere, I mean absolutely everywhere. You literally can't turn around without being slammed by someone who has an opinion on what's happening in the United States. While there's nothing wrong with having an opinion, hating others who have a different opinion is just not okay.

It breaks my heart how divided our country is and, it also scares me. These days, I think the only thing that we, as Americans, can collectively agree on is that things are very strange and that we've seen a lot of things in the last two years that none of us ever imagined that we'd see. And we don't like it.

While I admire the passion of my fellow Americans (on both sides of the political spectrum) and while I admire that people are speaking up and standing strong in their beliefs, it's the empty talking that is exhausting me.

I'm a firm believer that change will never happen unless people stop talking and start acting. I don't mean acting in violence or screaming and fighting on social media. I mean actively researching issues, writing, and calling local and national leaders. I mean putting heads together to come up with a solution to the problems instead of just talking about how awful the problems are but then not acting to make a change.

A few years ago, hardly anyone talked about politics in the workplace but now - it's like there's been an explosion of political confetti and it's splattered all over the workplace. Which brings me to this question: How do you feel about people talking about politics in the workplace? Does it make you uncomfortable or do you thrive off of it?

2,800 Americans were asked if they think it's acceptable to bring politics into the workplace and I admit that I thought the numbers would be higher than they are against political discussion, that is. However, only 26 percent of people said it's never okay to talk about politics at work. 53 percent of people said they're okay with talking about politics at work, but only when the situation is right for the conversation. And then, 22 percent of people said they have no issue talking about politics at work whatsoever.
