The show featuring the life of a big city alley cat and his band of streetwise felines debuted on ABC in September of 1961, and ended its original 30 episodes run in April of 1962.

The show was inspired by the East Side Kids movies of the 1940’s and the lead character was modeled after actor Phil Silvers character on the television show Sergeant Bilko. One of the characters, 'Bennie the Ball' was voiced by Maurice Gosfield, who played Private Duane Doberman on the Phil Silvers Show.

I remember the crew always trying to pull one over on Officer Dibble, the stereotypical beat cop of the neighborhood.

The theme song was catchy and memorable.

I watched the show in syndication which ran on Saturday morning and the early years of cable television.

This was one of the first shows developed by animating guru’s William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, in the pre-Flintstones-Jetsons era.
