An Oneonta area man is being charged in an attempted robbery in Delaware County at around 4:30 a.m. June 4.

Delaware County Sheriff’s officials say 28-year-old Eliah Vergari is accused of demanding cash from acquaintances, spraying them with pepper spray and attempting to hit them with a hammer before fleeing.

The incident was reported at a home on Pine Cliff Circle in the Town of Davenport.

Vergari was later located and taken into custody in the City of Oneonta by Oneonta Police and turned over to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.

He is charged with felony counts of attempted robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of attempted assault as well as attempted petit larceny and unlawful possession of a noxious material.

Vergari was sent to the Delaware County Jail without bail and Orders of Protection were issued for the victims.
