Authorities say the incident happened on Route 17 in Nichols when an eastbound driver encountered the woman, believed to be in her ‘80s, driving a small silver sedan the wrong way, and swerved to avoid a head-on crash. While that driver managed to avoid the oncoming car, their vehicle left the road and rolled over as the sliver sedan kept traveling the wrong direction.

The driver of the vehicle that rolled was taken to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre for treatment of head and neck injuries.

Troopers say it’s believed the driver of the wrong-way vehicle got on the highway at exit 62 before causing the crash.

Anyone with information is asked to call the State Police in Owego at (607) 687-3961.
