Winter Storm Warnings Replace Watches for Twin Tiers

The word on the approach of an early winter storm for the Twin Tiers keeps getting more serious.

As of 4 a.m. November 15 the National Weather Service had upgraded earlier watches and advisories to full –scale warnings.

Noaa says a Winter Storm Warning is now in effect from 1 p.m. Thursday to 8 a.m. Friday for the Southern Tier and Central New York as well as Bradford and Susquehanna Counties in Pennsylvania.

Forecasters say heavy, mixed precipitation should fall on the region. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze expected.

The National Weather Service predicts snow to develop mid to late afternoon Thursday. Sleet and perhaps freezing rain may mix in with the snow tonight, but precipitation returns to all snow into early Friday morning.

Officials caution travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening and morning commutes.

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
