Well, it's been quite the winter. Not so much in the way of snowfall as we have experienced in past years, but it certainly has been cold. Unfortunately, when the temperatures did rise to melt some of the snow, it quickly turned to ice. I can't remember how much ice melt I've gone through so far this season.

Every so often during the winter season, I like to check in with the website Golden Snowball to find out where Binghamton stands in the rankings for snowfall. The website tracks five New York State cities including Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, Syracuse, and Albany.

The last time I checked in was January 21, 2025, and surprisingly enough, Binghamton was in 1st place, like it or not, followed by Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo, and Albany. Well, in just under two months, that ranking has changed a bit.

As of March 3, 2025, in 1st place, it's Syracuse with 109.6 inches, followed by Rochester in 2nd place with 83.8 inches of snow. 3rd place goes to Buffalo at 76.1 inches, dropping from 1st to 4th place - Binghamton with 76.1 inches of snow, and 5th place goes to Albany, as always, at 42.8 inches.

By the way, according to the Golden Snowball website, the average snowfall total for this time of the year for Binghamton is 68.3 inches, so we're just under a foot of snow over the average.

While Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo normally go back and forth for the 1st place title every year, Binghamton was a winner over the 2016-2017 winter season with a total of 135.2 inches of snow according to the Golden Snowball website. Although for those of us to had to shovel all that snow over the season, I wouldn't call that exactly being a winner.
