Favorite Mexican Spots From Binghamton To Painted Post

When I was growing up, most meals at home were a combination of various meats, potatoes, vegetables, and a dessert. My mom was a great cook. I miss those meals. We didn't snack on junk food, although a bowl of potato chips was a Saturday night treat from time to time. Fruit and vegetables were our snack foods.

It wasn't until I got out on my own that I began trying other types of food I hadn't experienced or even known existed. Some I enjoyed, others, not so much.

For many years, I was not a fan of Mexican food. But for whatever reason, as I got older, I began to really take a liking to the various Mexican cuisine offerings.

I enjoy the food of our many locally owned Mexican restaurants in the Southern Tier of New York and into Northeastern PA. While I don't have a 'favorite' local Mexican restaurant, I was curious what our readers enjoy best.

Here's a taste (sorry for the pun) of what some of the respondents told me through a social media question I posed a couple of weeks ago: "What's your favorite Southern Tier NY or Northern Tier PA Mexican restaurant, and what makes it so special?"

Alex W. - Los Tapatios, Vestal. They now serve exceptional El Pastor-inspired fajitas inside of a halved pineapple as a regular menu item.

Jimmy P. - Hacienda, Binghamton. Great food, better service.

Jennifer S. - El Coco, Endicott. The food is great!! Get their fresh horchata to drink; it's the best.

Edward Z - Ernesto’s, Vestal

Penny D. - El Pulpo in Binghamton. They took a McDonald's building and created a unique place with great food. Kept the drive-through, and I'm glad they did.

Dennis J. - Ay Cramaba, Waverly is PHENOMENAL.

Did Anyone Watch These TV Shows in the 1980s and 1990s?

While you might think “watching while distracted” is a modern habit, even back in the day the TV was just… there, humming along while you did other things. These were the shows that weren’t exactly “must-see TV,” more like “might-see TV” — part of the culture, but you had to wonder: who was actually watching?
