Twin Tiers Residents Clean Up from Back-to-Back Storms

Some areas of the Twin Tiers are left cleaning up debris from thunderstorms that fired up in the region about mid-afternoon May 26.

Trees were reported down in parts of Broome and Chenango Counties and as of overnight, New York State Electric and Gas was still assessing when power would be restored to over 300 customers, mainly in the Deposit/Sanford area. Most of those customers got electricity back on by early morning. Of course, some people were probably running a little late for work or school.

At one point, over 1,400 NYSEG customers in the region reported power interruption due to the storms.

Local emergency services agencies said they were not aware of any injuries resulting from one sting of thunderstorms with frequent lightning that swung through Tioga, Broome, Chenango, Bradford, Susquehanna and Delaware Counties between 3 and 4 p.m. and another line with a longer period of heavier rain a couple hours later.  There were also no reports of large-scale damage other than a few trees and limbs down.

Much cooler temperatures are flowing in behind the front with highs for the next few days only reaching into the 60s and possibly into the low 70s.
