Part of Interstate 81 in Broome and Cortland counties was closed to northbound traffic following a crash involving two tractor-trailers.

Authorities say a 21-mile section of the highway was shut down between Whitney Point - Exit 8 - and Cortland - Exit 10.

A Cortland County emergency dispatcher said the collision was reported at 3:42 a.m. Tuesday. The scene of the crash was about three miles north of Marathon.

One of the tractor-trailers overturned, blocking both lanes of I-81. All northbound traffic was being detoured onto Route 11.

According to New York State Police, one lane of the highway was reopened shortly before 6:30 a.m.

There was dense fog in the area at the time of the collision but it was not immediately known if that was a factor in the crash.

No injuries were reported and there apparently were no hazardous materials in either truck.

Southbound traffic on Interstate 81 was not affected by the crash.
