One of the advantages of having the radio station in downtown is you're never far away from anything  you need.

There are a ton of great restaurants in downtown so if you are going to go out to grab lunch, you can walk to a variety of restaurants. There's a CVS drug store right down the street from the station, and a couple of convenience stores on Court Street as well, not to mention three banks and a liquor store within a block of us. If you need anything, it's just a short walk away.

Wednesday morning we ran out of half and half at the station. So after I got off the air I walked to one of the convenience stores to grab a quart of half-and-half. The convenience store was in the process of installing new refrigerators/coolers. The cooler they used to have close to the register was where you can grab the half and half. So I asked him if they stopped carrying half-and-half and they said no they moved it to the refrigerator in the back to keep them cold while they were loading the  new coolers.

So the guy went in the back grab the half and half, I paid my $3 and walk back to the station. Once I returned, I grabbed a fresh cup of coffee, open the half and half and started to pour the cream, and it came out in giant chunks. I looked at the date on the carton and it said best if used by date was April 14th.

Being that I had the receipt, I could have put the cap back on it and walked back down the street to either get a different container of half-and-half or my $3. back. But I figured this was my fault because I didn't look at the date.

Every other time I went in there and pulled a container of half and half out of the cooler myself, the first thing I do is look at the date. Then I unscrew the cap just to make sure that it hasn't been opened yet. They sell coffee at that store, and sometimes people will open the cream to put in their coffee and then put it back in the cooler.

So lesson learned. I took the container of half and half in the bathroom and dumped it in the toilet. I rinsed out the container in the sink and put it in the recycle bin. I drank black coffee for the rest of the day.

On the way home, I stopped at a grocery store and bought two quarts of half and half. I made sure I checked the date on these before I grabbed them.
