Some Southern Tier Counties Report 0 New COVID Cases
As residents make their own personal decisions on whether or not to wear masks in certain public settings, Health officials are continuing their daily reports on infection and mortality rates to help people make informed decisions.
Broome County remains at low to medium transmission risk according to ongoing evaluations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
After going over a week without any new deaths associated with COVID-19, Broome’s death toll rose to 498 in the March 24th report and 499 in the March 27 report. Broome’s five-day infections were reported at 191 March 28, up from 163 in the Friday, March 25 update. Broome Reported 21 new cases for a total of 57,027 COVID cases since the start of the pandemic two years ago. There are currently 18 residents hospitalized.
A few counties in the Southern Tier: Chenango, Delaware and Tioga Counties over the past week even had a day with no new cases reported. That information, however, does not include positive home COVID-19 tests that may go unreported.
Health officials are keeping a close watch on infection rates and severity of illness from the BA.2 subvariant of the Omicron mutation.
The numbers for the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania for the week March 21-28 show Bradford County with 50 new cases and one additional death, Susquehanna with 35 new cases and no additional deaths and Wayne County with 19 new cases and two additional deaths over the past week.
