The Triple Cities area has a lot to be proud of. Many industries got their start here. Sadly some are no longer here, but nonetheless, they made an impact on our community and the world as well like IBM and Endicott-Johnson.

Many people who have roots in the Triple Cities have achieved amazing things and became famous in their professional fields as well, including Edwin A. Link, Richard Deacon, Johnny Hart, Endicott's Jones Brothers, Thomas J. Watson Sr., Ron Luciano, and the list goes on and on.

Of course, one of the most famous people to hail from Binghamton is Rod Serling. Who isn't familiar with his accomplishments? And something exciting hopefully will be happening in our community to honor Rod Serling's legacy. It's long overdue and could be a great addition to the Binghamton area.

The Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce, The Agency (Broome County IDA/LDC), Rod Serling Memorial Foundation, Serling Family, Conrad & Virginia Klee Foundation, Broome County, City of Binghamton, and Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo have begun a study for the possible development of the Rod Serling “Dimensions of Imagination” Center for Media and the Arts.

I have long thought our community could do more to honor the life and legacy of Rod Serling. As a lifelong fan of the “Twilight Zone” I always believed other fans of the show would come to the region if we had a dedicated tourist destination. I am thrilled that we are finally undertaking a feasibility study for the Rod Serling Multi-Media Center for the Arts. The possibilities for what this could mean for our area are endless.  - Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo

The Agency notes that the proposed center would be a great addition along the lines of other Upstate New York tourist destinations such as the Lucy-Desi Museum and National Comedy Center in Jamestown, Mark Twain Center in Elmira, and the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, among others.

There is something poignant about this Serling Center to be erected in his honor, in a place he loved so much and would return to even in his writing. On behalf of my family, thank you for your respect of my father, for your belief in his goals and for bringing him home.” - Anne Serling, Rod Serling’s daughter

The feasibility study is slated to begin this December. Results and recommended actions will be announced in late spring 2023.

And in anticipation of what would be an awesome Rod Serling Center, check out a video of 13 Rod Serling 'Twilight Zone' episode intros, below.
