CVAC Purple Pets For Prevention Parade Returns In Binghamton
We love our pets! I have three, including two Greyhounds and a Whippet who thinks he is a Greyhound, or rather a mini version of a Greyhound.
If you have pets, you may be happy to know that the Crime Victims Assistance Center is back with their annual 'Purple Pets for Prevention Parade.'
This 2nd annual event will be held on Friday October 6th, beginning at 6 p.m. on the corner of Washington and Henry Streets in front the The Lost Dog Restaurant.
The Crime Victims Assistance Center staff, board members, volunteers and supporters are bringing their pets sporting purple clothing and accessories, and will parade around a 1.2 mile route in Downtown Binghamton. The public is invited to bring their pets as well. Even if you can't bring a pet or don't have a pet, it's still a fun event to see, so on out with the family and enjoy the pet parade.
The Crime Victims Assistance Center holds this annual event to raise community awareness surrounding domestic violence while in turn showing those affected by abuse that they are not alone and supportive services are available through local organizations.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, an issue which has been long represented by the color purple. Since 1981, communities, advocacy organizations, supporters, & leaders have come together to recognize domestic violence, take action to prevent it, and support survivors. This year, CVAC finds the issue particularly important due to numerous recent incidents that have had fatal and devastating outcomes in our community. - CVAC
