Owego Police Catch Speeder Wanted for Several Hit-and-Runs
Village of Owego Police say they caught a Pennsylvania man following multiple hit-and-run crashes in the region.
According to a weekly news update from the Department issued on December 28, 53-year-old Scott Mertz of Millertown, Pennsylvania was arrested last week for Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer and speeding following an investigation of a hit-and-run driver on State Route 17 Eastbound.
Authorities say they caught Mertz going 106 miles per hour in a 65 mile per hour zone.
They say they also found Mertz was investigated by New York State Police in Chemung County for a hit-and-run crash and State Police in Owego for a hit-and-run crash, speeding and Fleeing Law Enforcement Officers.
Owego Police say Mertz is ordered to appear in Village of Owego Court at a later date while he was issued numerous traffic citations by the New York State Police.
