Governor Andrew Cuomo attributed his decision to resign to a political and media "rush to judgment" related to a series of unproven accusations.

In his farewell message to New Yorkers, Cuomo criticized Attorney General Letitia James for her office's investigation into sexual harassment allegations made by several women.

The governor continued to dispute the conclusions in her report, which ultimately resulted in his announcement two weeks ago that he would step down.

Cuomo's resignation followed calls by many elected Democrats for his impeachment if he didn't leave office voluntarily.

In his pre-recorded message, the governor discussed what he believed were his major accomplishments since taking office in 2011.

Lieutenant governor Kathy Hochul is scheduled to be sworn in as governor at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday. Cuomo said "we all wish her success."
