Voting Day for NY School District & Pa. Primaries

Mau 17 is a busy day for polling places in New York and Pennsylvania.

In New York, voters are deciding the fate of school district budgets while it's Primary day in Pennsylvania.

Budgets, school board seats and district referendums are put to a vote state-wide in New York on a single date. 

Districts are held to a statewide cap of 2.27% on tax levy increases unless they can get a super-majority vote from residents.  Many districts also put capital spending proposals before voters in the annual polling.

Most polls are open noon to eight. Residents can check their districts’ websites for details on budget proposals, board candidates, polling places and times.

In Pennsylvania, it's a huge day for dozens of candidates who want to be Governor or a U.S. Senator from the Keystone State.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The front-runner for the Democratic nomination for Senate is taking it easy and will skip the traditional election night watch parties, with good excuse-- Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman suffered a stroke on Friday, May 13 and is resting on doctor's orders. His Democratic challengers U.S. Rep. Conor Lamb and Pa. Rep. Malcom Kenyatta wished Fetterman a speedy recovery over the weekend.

The race is crowded on the Republican side to fill the seat of Republican Pat Toomey. Candidates are Conservative commentator Kathy Barnette, who has been surging in polls and has become the target of recent attack ads by other Republicans, Trump-backed former TV Doctor Mehmet Oz, Jeff Bartos, George Bochetto, Sean Gale, David McCormick and Carla Sands.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, a Democrat, is leaving office.

Republican Trump-supporter State Senator Doug Mastriano is seeking to replace Wolf. His closest opponent in the GOP primary is former U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta with others seeking the nomination, Montgomery County commissioner Joseph Gale, activist Charlie Gerow, former U.S. Attorney William McSwain. surgeon Dr. Nche Zama and businessman David White from Delaware County.

Also running for Governor are Pa. Attorney General Josh Shapiro, who is endorsed by the state Democratic Committee, Green Party of Pennsylvania candidate Christina PK Digiulio and Libertarian Party candidate Matt Hickenburg from Northhampton County.
