New York Ranks Among the Creepiest in the Country, Why?
Yeah, I know. Halloween is over for this year. But don't you worry, we'll see 2025 Halloween products by the time winter is over.
Anyway, indulge me for just one more Halloween-related story. Just before Halloween 2024, the website MoveBuddha.com published the 50 Most Haunted States in America for Halloween.
My first thought was that there are only 50 states unless you count U.S.-owned territories so that much covers it all. But upon checking the article, (which so many people comment on without actually reading an article) MoveBuddha.com did their research to find out which state will give you the spooks the most.

MoveBuddha.com covered all 50 states and ranked them as the most haunted hotspots with the highest potential for spooky and spine-chilling encounters. Sound scary? Well, let's find out how frightening New York State and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania are (now stop, I know what you are thinking!)
First, MoveBuddha.com ranked each state on three score categories - Spook Score which includes among others, the number of haunted locations and cemeteries, Creep Score - including the number of unsolved murders and abandoned buildings, and Boo Score, which includes the number of ghost towns, and reported ghost sightings.
Out of the overall score of the most haunted states, New York State ranks 15th, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania comes in at number 5! But, no worries New York State...we rank number one for being the creepiest state in the nation. Yay for unsolved murders and abandoned buildings. Much to celebrate there, right fellow New Yorkers?!
Even locally, we have interesting abandoned buildings such as the New York State Inebriate Asylum in Binghamton. Check out the article I wrote on the history of the Castle on the Hill, and this article featuring three Haunted New York State Lakes!
But Pennsylvania...you've got New York beat in the cemetery category - can anyone say Gettysburg? And, as MoveBudda.com notes, The Keystone State is famous for the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, which at one time was the most famous prison in the world. I'm guessing that was not a good thing.
What is the most haunted state in America according to MoveBudda.com? It's New Mexico. Well, I was thinking about moving there when I retire. Maybe not now.
Check out the article from MoveBudda.com. It's not only scary, it's also a history lesson on the haunted side of America's 50 states.
