We're proud of the positive things that come out of the Southern Tier of New York and Northeast Pennsylvania. For example, a couple of months ago we wrote an article about 46 famous athletes with ties to the Binghamton area with such people as Joel Bennett who played in Major Leauge Baseball, hockey goaltender, Mike Dunham, college softball coach, Cathy Compton, and Arthur Jones who played for many years in the National Football Leauge.

They are all persons who call the Binghamton area their home and are proud to be connected with the community they grew up in. We are proud of them as well. And as long as we are on the subject of local people who have made it big in the sports world, an article from WBNG-TV 12 reveals a positive story of another sports figure who grew up in the Southern Tier and is invested in our community.

Johnson City's own DaQuan Jones is a defensive lineman for the Carolina Panthers in the National Football League, and WBNG-TV reports that he is about to open a business in Binghamton called the Legacy Lounge. It will be located downtown in the 20 Hawley Street luxury student housing building. It's the building located in front of the Broome County Arena.

Others who have grown up in our area, but become famous in their profession, have given back to the community as well because they believe in their hometown, including Thomas Tull who donated over $2 million dollars to his alma mater, the Maine-Endwell School District for development of a new baseball field and lights for the football stadium back in 2013.
