Binghamton Man Making His Debut at Madison Square Garden
Things seem to be finally opening up, especially if you are a sports fan. Earlier this week, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies announced that single-game tickets will be going on sale soon. It's hard to believe that it's been almost 600 days since they played a home game at NYSEG Stadium.
Last year, the DICK'S Sporting Goods Open was canceled but it's coming back this summer for its 50th year of professional golf in the Southern Tier. I'll have more on that really soon.
Speaking of golf, this summer is the St. Jude Golf Tournament in honor of my friend and fellow basketball official, Chris Haynes at Traditions at the Glen. It's so nice to feel sports coming back to the Southern Tier.
Everything seems to be coming back except for hockey...at least for this season. Thanks to the pandemic, the Binghamton Devils won't be playing any of their home games at the Visions Federal Credit Union Veterans Memorial Arena.
I always try and find the positive and in this case, it has to do with the radio voice of the Binghamton Devils, Rob Lippolis. A Windsor native and Oswego College grad, he has been with the Binghamton Devils for all four years and continues to travel with the team.
Lippolis Steps Into New Jersey Devils Radio Chair
On Sunday, April 11th, he got the break of a lifetime when one of the New Jersey Devils TV announcers got Covid. Matt Loughlin, the play-by-play radio announcer for the Devils was called to the TV side.
That's where Rob comes in, he was asked to fill in for Loughlin and he got to call the New Jersey - Pittsburgh game. The Devils came up short against the Penguins 5-2 but it was still a memorable night for Lippolis.
Madison Square Garden Debut
Tonight, April 15th, he gets to live his ultimate dream when he calls the Devils - Ranger game at the World's Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden. Face-off is at 7 p.m. and like I told him, "if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere."
You can listen to his call of the game on the Devils Hockey Network. Congratulations Rob, we are happy for you and proud of you Go get'em, and don't forget about the little people of Broome County. Let's Go Devils!!!
