The fate of professional hockey in Binghamton is in question with reports that the New Jersey Devils intend to move their AHL team.

According to WBNG and WICZ, Tom Mitchell, executive vice president of operations for the Binghamton Devils, New Jersey has informed him that it intends to relocate the team.

The Binghamton Devils have been playing their home games in New Jersey during the current Covid-19 pandemic-shortened season.

Binghamton hockey fans had been looking forward to the return of the Devils in the fall.

Mitchell indicated the parent club had been making demands that were unreasonable.

WBNG had reported that the president of the Utica AHL team recently filed to trademark the name "Utica Devils."

It's not known whether another American Hockey League team could play at the Visions Federal Credit Union Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton in the fall.
