New York State Electric and Gas is reporting hundreds of customers in the Southern Tier without power as high winds whip the area.

As of 4 a.m. February 25, close to 100 customers in Broome County, many in the Dimmock Hill Road area were without power while over 600 in Chenango County, many in Norwich and Greene were expecting power back on before 8 a.m.

The situation is much worse in Western New York where NYSEG and Rochester Electric and Gas weren't even projecting restoration times on the company website.

As of 3:30 a.m. February 25, over 24,000 customers in Erie County were without service, over 3,240 of them in Buffalo.

Binghamton was dealing with a situation of a light pole leaning into power lines on Conklin Avenue near the exit from State Street on the South side.  Streets around that area were closed at 4 a.m. until NYSEG and City crews could fix the situation.

Most of New York State is under a High Wind Warning from the National Weather Service.  The Twin Tiers' advisory is to extend to 7 p.m. February 25.

The New York State Department of Transportation reminds motorists to be aware of high winds, especially if driving high profile vehicles and to treat all intersections with a traffic signal that is out as a four-way stop.  Drivers should also be aware of debris like garbage cans and other unsecured objects blowing across the road.
