Silo Restaurant Rubble Re-Ignites in Chenango County

Chenango County Emergency Services official say firefighters from Coventry have been back out at the scene of the four-alarm fire that destroyed the Silo Restaurant over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Fire crews returned to the scene on Moran Road near Greene at around 9 p.m. December 2 with reports that the rubble had rekindled. Authorities say it’s believed the high winds December 2 were enough to fan an ember in the basement, reigniting the debris.

Coventry firefighters were on the scene of the re-ignite for a couple hours making sure all hot spots were out.

The huge fire at the restaurant that has seen hundreds of weddings, romantic dinners and a favorite brunch buffet for decades drew fire companies from 15 departments and three counties with the first call coming at around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, November 28.

Firefighters from Chenango, Broome and Delaware Counties were on the scene for eight hours for that four-alarm blaze and investigators have been trying to determine the cause of the conflagration that claimed the restaurant that had been a part of the Chenango County landscape since 1967.

The business had been placed up for sale a year ago as the owners looked to retire.

There were no injuries reported fighting the initial fire or putting out the hot spots last night.
