Halloween may be Halloween but trick-or-treating will not be held on the spooky night in a few local communities.

With frightful weather in the forecast for Halloween, Waverly, Athens and Sayre are opting to have children do their door-to-door candy quest October 30 instead of All Hallows Eve.

Officials are citing safety concerns with visibility being further reduced by expected heavy rain and other health concerns being brought on by the weather.

Homeowners in those communities like Waverly should know it isn’t an early trick for children to be knocking on their doors between 6 and 8 p.m. a night early looking for treats.

Most other communities in the Twin Tiers are not messing around with the tradition of trick-or-treats on Halloween.
