Scattered Power Outages, High Winds Persist in Twin Tiers

Utility crews aren’t getting a break in the area.

Over the weekend, New York State Electric and Gas was still reporting hundreds of residents impacted by downed trees and powerlines from powerful storms.

Early March 29, hundreds of NYSEG customers were reported without power in areas like Triangle, Greene, Chenango Forks and Kirkwood.

Emergency Services officials say they were kept busy, especially by mid-day March 26 and into the afternoon with reports of trees coming down across roads.  There had been a few reports of trees and branches down again March 29.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a Wind Advisory in effect for Chenango, Cortland and Delaware Counties until noon March 29 with gusts up to 50 miles per hour. Steady winds were anticipated at 20 miles per hour in the advisory area.

High Wind Warnings were issued for areas of the Catskills, Mohawk Valley and Greater Capitol District until around 4 p.m. March 29.

Those areas were anticipating winds gusting at 60 miles per hour or more.

Residents are again reminded to secure items that could blow around and create a driving hazard like garbage cans and recycling bins.

Motorists should slow down and keep a firm grip on the steering wheel.  Drivers of the higher profile vehicles like vans should be extra aware of the chance of being blown across lanes especially at higher elevations and on  bridges that are prone to cross-winds.
