I don't know about you, but when I see the rivers getting high, or hear of a flood watch or warning I get a sinking feeling in my stomach. After the floods of 06 and 2011, I'm sure a lot of people in this area get a little nervous for the same reasons. Even though the floods didn't impact me personally, I felt bad for all the people who were affected. Some people lost everything. Some lost everything TWICE. We saw businesses close after the floods. Houses and building had to be torn down. One even went floating down the river.

I helped and donated at numerous flood relief drives after both floods. In 2011 I was on the air 31 hours straight giving updates as to what was going on as the water kept rising. I did what I could, but I still wanted to do more. It took me a long time to get over that feeling of helplessness because there really wasn't anything else I could do. Every day, I would drive down Old Vestal Road on my way to work and back, and I would see all the damage. People just emptying their houses into dumpsters. All I could do is pray for the people that were affected.

So even though they aren't expecting "major" flooding this time around, I will keep an eye on both rivers and all the streams and hope that our area never has to go through that again.
