With the Senate wrapping things up this week before their break, some Senators were hoping for a last minute deal to legalize the recreational use of marijuana in the State.

According to the New York Post, the legalization of marijuana in New York State is definitely not going to happen this year.

Their report said that Manhattan State Senator Liz Krueger admitted defeat today (Wednesday) after days of negotiations trying for a last-minute breakthrough.

She said it's only a delay, it's not the end of the road and that they just ran out of time to finalize a deal.

According to the report, the three key issues that are holding up the bill are how the tax revenue would be spent, how to prevent driving while stoned, and the ability for counties and cities to opt out if they wish.

The District of Columbia, Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington all allow the use of recreational marijuana.

Maybe next year.
