Summertime means it's time for the fair season. We have plenty of fairs to enjoy throughout the Southern Tier of New York and Northeastern Pennsylvania, especially county fairs.

Then there is the granddaddy of all fairs in the Empire State, The Great New York State Fair in Syracuse. This year's state fair will be from August 21st through September 2nd, 2024.

As with everything else that pulls money out of your pocket, the fair admission price will increase for the second year in a row. It's not much, but it is still an increase.

According to an article in Syrcause.com, last year, one adult admission was $6. For 2024, it will be $8, and the fair lot parking will also increase from $10 to $12 per vehicle.

But, the article notes that these prices are better than in years past. For example, tickets for the 2001 and 2002 fair adult admission were $8; from 2003 to 2019, it was $10.

Believe it or not, admission to the New York State Fair is cheaper than many state fairs around the country according to Syracuse.com. The article lists a $15 admission to the Texas and Arizona State Fairs and a whopping $15 for the Minnesota State Fair.

Even though the admission price has increased, there are days you can save money. The NYS Fair will again have certain discounts including children under 12 years of age admitted free every day, Seniors 65 years of age and over admitted free every day, and students & youth 18 years of age and under admitted free on Thursday, August 22 for Student Youth Day.

Also, there are discounts on Law Enforcement Day, Native Americans Day, Fire, Rescue & EMS Day, and Armed Forces Day. For information on all discounts and their happening days, click HERE.

For the price you pay, I believe you get a great deal with so much to do and see at our state fair. As for music acts, this year's fair has plenty of free concerts at Chevy Court, with 18 acts scheduled to please many tastes in music. Click HERE for the list of acts.
