Some Southern Tier residents are in Texas and Louisiana to help with disaster recovery following the landfall of Hurricane Harvey.

The Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross says Lee Campfield of Apalachin, Rachel Kieltyka of Johnson City and Bill Spangenburg of Vestal are among more than a dozen volunteers from New York deployed to the Gulf Coast.

The volunteers are supporting over a dozen shelters for thousands of displaced residents and are providing cots, blankets, cleaning supplies and counseling services.

Residents can help the Red Cross’ relief efforts by visiting redcross.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS or texting REDCROSS to 90999 to make a ten dollar donation.
