Really, do we need a day specifically for junk food? Apparently so, according to the National Day Calendar. I'm not sure I need another excuse for consuming junk food, though.

But if there is ever a day to consume junk food, for me, today would be it. This morning I went in to the doctor's office for blood work in advance of a check up next week. I've been trying to eat food good for the past week in anticipation of the blood test. Can't hurt, right?

Speaking of the visit, I have to admit I've come a long way from the first time I had blood work done. I remember that first visit vividly. I was very nervous since I'd never had blood taken out of me before and I have a bit of an issue with needles. I did everything I could to remain calm until the procedure was over. But, the person taking my blood commented that it looked like I was about to pass out. That was not a good thing to say. Fortunately, I kept my composure and got out of there as quickly as I could.

While I still get a bit nervous every time I go in for blood work, have learned to keep calm for the short time it takes. One thing I found that helps me, is chatting with the person taking my blood. I probably sound like a chatterbox.

So, now that the visit is over, I celebrated with a couple of fast food breakfast sandwiches. For lunch, maybe I will treat myself to a couple of slices of pepperoni pizza and for dinner, maybe a turkey sub with my favorite kind of potato chips. And then I really need to get back to eating sensibly.

One day being bad isn't a big deal, is it? Okay, maybe I'll skip lunch since breakfast was very filling. Maybe I'll work off those calories tonight with a walk or doing some yard work around the house. That way, I won't feel so guilty. Happy National Junk Food Day!
