Left-Turn Concerns Loom Over Proposed Endicott Bryne Dairy Store

Questions remain about whether customers will be able to make a left-turn onto a busy roadway from a planned Byrne Dairy store in Endicott.

Mayor Linda Jackson said a Byrne Dairy representative asked her if she had any influence over what the state Department of Transportation decides regarding the turn issue. She said "I don't really want to take that responsibility."

The proposed store and gasoline station would be built at the site of a former Friendly's restaurant on East Main Street and Loder Avenue.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Jackson said she understood the developers were "having a difference of opinion with the DOT for turning left onto Main Street."

The mayor noted Byrne customers who want to travel east would be able to leave the parking lot via Loder Avenue and use a traffic signal to turn onto East Main Street, which is state Route 17C.

Jackson noted left turns are prohibited from a nearby McDonald's restaurant.

Although Byrne Dairy representatives have discussed the left-turn issue with the DOT, the state agency has yet to issue a public decision about it.

Christian Brunelle of Byrne Dairy did not return phone calls seeking comment.
