Demolition crews have removed a structure that was home to a popular Endwell donut shop a few decades ago.

The building at 2713 East Main Street housed a Mister Donut operation during the 1970s and 1980s. Most recently, First General of Southern New York used the site for its offices.

The national car parts retailer AutoZone plans to set up a distribution facility next to one of its existing stores. The company has advised town of Union officials it intends to build a 9,300 square foot addition to the store located just west of the site.

The completed complex would have more than 17,900 square feet of space.

AutoZone employees had expected the demolition work for the project would start in June. But permitting issues and other problems delayed the project.

The Endwell hub will provide parts for about 20 AutoZone stores in New York and Pennsylvania.

Between 20 and 25 people are expected to be hired for the new operation. An AutoZone representative now expects the hub facility could be operational in January.
