Endicott Woman Convicted of DWI With Child in Car

An Endicott woman’s “blatant disregard for the life of a child and other motorists” could get her up to four years in prison following her conviction under Leandra’s Law.

The Broome County District Attorney’s office says Amanda Diaz placed the lives of a 7-year-old and others in danger by her actions.

A Broome County jury August 11 convicted Diaz of felony aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child as well as endangering the welfare of a child.

Prosecutors say Diaz was driving on Route 17 in the Town of Union while intoxicated on Halloween, October 21, 2020, and had a 7-year-old child in the car when motorists notified the New York State Police that Diaz was stopped on the highway.

The District Attorney’s office commended the jury for the guilty verdict and praised the Good Samaritans who stopped and possibly prevented a “catastrophic incident.

Sentencing is set for October.
