Teens Arrested for Shooting at Occupied Vehicle in Cortland County

Cortland County Sheriff’s officials say five teenagers are facing felony and misdemeanor charges for allegedly shooting at an occupied vehicle on June 3.

Deputies say the incident happened at around 3:30 in the afternoon in Homer and Cortlandville.

Authorities say five 16 and 17-year-olds were in one car on Main Street in Homer and one of the teens shot at another vehicle with a pellet gun while the teens’ vehicle was turning onto Albany Street.  The victim car, which was stopped at a stop sign at Albany and Main Street, sustained damage. 

Deputies say the vehicle carrying the group of teenagers then followed the shot vehicle to Lighthouse Hill Road and Route 13 in Cortlandville with another shot being fired at the victim, damaging the windshield.

Deputies say the victim does not know the suspects.  There were no injuries.

All of the 16 and 17-year-olds were arrested.  Each is charged with felony Criminal Mischief, and misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, reckless endangerment and conspiracy.

Due to the ages of the suspects, all are being processed through the juvenile criminal justice system.

A news release from the Cortland Sheriff’s Office says the adolescents were arrested on Thursday, June 16 and released on appearance tickets.  They are scheduled to appear in Cortland County Court, Youth Part, at a later date.

Police did not specify whether all of the teens were male, what municipalities they are from and what type of pellet gun was used in the shootings.  Authorities have also not released any information concerning the identities of the occupants of the victim car.
