Cortland County Sheriff’s officials are warning about fake money being passed in the region.

Authorities say they have been investigating several cases that happened Tuesday, October 11 in the Town of Cortlandville in which two Black males are wanted for questioning.

Authorities did not specify what businesses had been targeted for the passing on counterfeit bills and have not said if there is a particular denomination that was being passed.

Cortland Sheriff’s officials have released surveillance footage showing the individual suspects.

Both men appear to be in their 20s.

One had a moustache and small “soul patch” goatee. He was wearing a red green and blue striped ball cap with the word “SUPREME” across the front. He was wearing dark blue hooded sweatshirt under a teal or green sweatshirt and had uneven front teeth.

There is no indication of the man’s height but he appears to be of medium to thin build.

The time-stamp on the photo is around 2:09 p.m. and the man appears to be in a convenience store

The other man in a separate surveillance photo appears to be clean-shaven or with a very faint, thin mustache and was wearing a tan hooded sweatshirt with the hood over his head. The shirt had red yellow graphics on the right chest in lightning-bolt pattern letters and a black and red logo on the left chest that starts with the letter “P”.

Meahwhile, merchants in the region should be aware that fake bills are being passed and remind clerks what clues to look for as currency is exchanged to be able to spot counterfeits.  Look for anomalies in color, print type and alignment, a lack of blue and red threads in the paper and colors that run when moistened.
