Election season is here, and this year is busy with important elections coming up locally, statewide, and nationwide. Of course one of the most important elections in the history of the U.S.A. is about to take place in the Presidential race for the White House. Hang on to your hat for this one!

It is your right to vote, so be sure you are registered and exercise that vote. The in-person general election is Tuesday, November 5th, 2024. If you are a New York State resident, there are some things you need to know to be sure you are registered and how you can vote.

The New York State Board of Elections reminds residents that they must register to vote by certain deadlines to be eligible to vote in Primary and General Elections, in addition to deadlines for making changes to registration, such as changes to address or enrollment.

Mail Registration

For mail registration, New York State resident's applications must be received by a board of elections no later than October 26, 2024, to be eligible to vote in the General Election.

In-Person Registration

If you plan to register in person, you can do so at your local board of elections or any state agency participating in the National Voter Registration Act. But again, to be eligible to vote in the 2024 elections, the application needs to be received no later than October 26, 2024.

Several Ways To Vote

New York State residents have several options to vote:

In Person - at your local polling place on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. There are 79 polling places in Broome County. For a list of locations, click HERE.

Early Voting - In Broome County, early voting begins October 26, 2024, through Sunday, November 3, 2024, at:

  • Broome County Public Library - 185 Court St., City of Binghamton
  • George F Johnson Memorial Library - 1001 Park St., Village of Endicott
  • Vestal Public Library - 320 Vestal Pkwy E., Town of Vestal
  • Taste NY Building (Cornell Coop Ext) - 840 Upper Front St., Town of Dickinson

Absentee Ballot Application and Voting Deadlines

  • Put it in the mail ensuring it receives a postmark no later than November 5th. Must be received by the County Board of Elections no later than November 12th.
  • Bring it to your County Board of Elections Office no later than November 5th by 9 p.m.
  • Bring it to an early voting poll site in your county between October 26th and November 3rd.
  • Bringing it to a poll site in your county on November 5th by 9 p.m.

Military and Overseas Application and Voting Deadlines

  • October 26, 2024, is the last day for a board of elections to receive applications for absentee ballots by mail if not previously registered.
  • October 29, 2024, is the last day for a board of elections to receive applications for absentee ballots by mail if previously registered.
  • November 4, 2024, is the last day to apply for an absentee ballot in person if previously registered.
  • November 5, 2024, is the last day to postmark the return ballot. Must be received by the local board of elections no later than November 18th.
