Written by Gerry Rafferty and recorded for this 1978 solo album 'City to City' , it hit #2 for 6 weeks on the US Billboard Charts.

The song was named after the famous street in London and written during a time when Rafferty was trying to free himself from the contractual obligations of his former band Stealers Wheel.

The Foo Fighters covered the song in 1997 as part of their extended album 'The Color and the Shape'
