Congressman Delgado Quits, Starts New Job as Lt. Gov. May 25
New York will be getting its next Lieutenant Governor May 25 following the resignation of the last guy, Brian Benjamin (D-Harlem) after being arrested on federal corruption charges he denies.
U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (D-Schenectady) is resigning from Congress and will be sworn in as New York Lieutenant Governor.
A Special Election to fill out the remainder of Delgado’s term in the 19th district is expected to be set by Governor Kathy Hochul to coincide with the primaries for the new congressional districts August 23.
Delgado’s current district encompasses the Hudson Valley and a small part of the Southern Tier. The newly approved and signed reworked-redesigned congressional map has the 19th district taking in much of the current 22nd district stretching from the Hudson Valley north to Albany and west through Binghamton and Owego and into the Finger Lakes region.

Democrat Pat Ryan came in second in the Democratic Primary for the old 19th District in 2018. He has indicated he will run in the new 19th district. Republicans: Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro and Brandon Buccola also have their sights set on the 19th District.
