It’s official, there are two candidates on the ballot in the race to replace long-time Broome County Sheriff David Harder.

Former Undersheriff, now New York State Senator, Fred Akshar filed the necessary petitions at the Broome County Board of Elections April 5 to appear on the Republican and Conservative party lines.
Current Broome County Sheriff’s Captain Kate Newcomb filed her petitions to appear as a Democrat on the ballot.
Sheriff David Harder, a Republican, is retiring after 6 terms as sheriff.
