Broome Hopes for More Expanded Vaccine Clinics

Broome County officials are hoping they get more news from New York State about additional COVID-19 vaccinations that will be available for a wider range of individuals.

Last week, the county put out word it had gotten hundreds of the Pfizer vaccine to be given to residents age 65 and older, prompting the county to set up appointments for March 5, 8 and 9 at the SUNY Broome Ice Center.  Shortly after 1 a.m. March 8, the last of those appointments was snapped up.

County officials say they are preparing for when the State provides vaccines and guidance to allow counties to administer doses to a wider range of residents, including those with comorbidities like high blood pressure, respiratory, kidney and liver disease, diabetes and cancer patients.

 Right now, those residents are getting their vaccinations by appointment from the New York State location in Johnson City while pharmacies concentrate on residents age 65 and older and the county has been vaccinating primarily people in the 1-a and 1-b priority groups with additional clinics when the state provides doses for select populations or, like last week, more residents age 65 and older.
