The Broome County Police Review Taskforce is hosting a ZOOM teleconference on the Sheriff’s Office draft plan for local police reform.

The meeting takes place at 5 p.m. February 16.

County officials say residents will be able to share their thoughts regarding the plan during the session but did not indicate if there would be a question and answer session. the City of Binghamton’s Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative plans a virtual meeting on education and youth organizations at 6:30 p.m. A public comment period on the city plan is planned for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 18.

Under a directive from Governor Andrew Cuomo last year during calls for diversity training and a reform and defunding of police, local governments were directed to come up with plans for revising their law enforcement divisions and interactions with the public or risk losing State funding.  The Governor is requiring plans from the local governments and police agencies by April 1.
