Binghamton Police Investigating River Walk Graffiti Spree

Detectives are looking into spray-painted vandalism on walls along the downtown Binghamton river walk.

The graffiti incident was reported to city police early Wednesday morning. Police officers were scene searching the area around 3 a.m.

Scrawled messages and symbols marred a wall along the Chenango River and on the side of a building at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel complex just south of Clinton Street.

Binghamton police detective captain Cory Minor said the incident is under investigation. He was aware of no other recent similar vandalism cases in the downtown area.

Mayor Richard David was not immediately available for comment. A representative of the DoubleTree hotel declined to comment on the graffiti.

It was not known when the spray-painting occurred but people strolling along the river walk Wednesday said it appeared to be new.
