BAE Systems Rolls Out Temperature Checks for Endicott Workers

Employees at the BAE Systems sites in Endicott and Endwell now undergo screenings before they are able to enter the company's buildings.

Large white tents were erected outside facilities on North Street and Hayes Avenue late last month.

Most local BAE Systems employees have been working remotely since mid-March because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The few workers who must enter buildings now are required to have their temperature checked. If it's too high, they will undergo a COVID-19 test.

According to a statement released by a BAE Systems representative in Endicott, "given the complexity of our work - including performing classified national security work, high-tech production, and manufacturing work - it is not possible for all employees to work from home."

The statement indicated the company is taking steps to limit exposure, including enhanced cleaning and limits on in-person meetings.

It's not known when most BAE Systems workers will be able to return to the company's buildings in Endicott and Endwell.
