The 16th annual Jim "Mudcat" Grant All Start Golf Tournament is returning to the Southern Tier at the end of August.

Speaking on the weekly, local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up", Jennifer Lesko, President and CEO of the Urban League of Broome County, one of the non-profit agencies that benefits from the tournament, talks about Mudcat's amazing story of courage and dignity being one of the Black Aces in the Negro Baseball League during the age of segregation and how his history is still an inspiration to young and old.

The proceeds from the golf tournament, that draws several sports figures and local golfers, are targeted toward groups that uplift children and families.

Lesko says Grant's message is not solely focused on the race struggles of the past and present but mainly looks at the empowerment of people to accomplish whatever they set their sights on.

Opportunities are still available for the August 31 tournament at Hiawatha Landing for hole sponsorship and other support as Captain and Crew team slots are filling up.

Southern Tier Close Up can be heard Sunday at 6am on 99.1 The Whale.
