$11.5 Million 30-Unit Housing Project to Be Built in Vestal

Additional housing for dozens of seniors and for families is planned for a town of Vestal site.

The project developer is the First Ward Action Council in Binghamton.

Executive director Jerry Willard said the site is located southeast of the agency's existing 24-unit Vestal Pines complex for seniors off Route 26.

Willard said the new $11.5 million project will be known as "Vestal Chateau." It will include a building with 24 units for seniors and a townhouse-style building with six apartments for individuals and families.

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that state funding has been approved for the project.

Willard said "the need is definitely there" for the additional housing. He said "it's a wonderful Christmas gift" for area residents.

Willard hopes construction can start early next summer. He said the project likely would take about 18 months to complete after the work gets underway at the site.
