Home Invasion Shooting in Town of Maine

Broome County Sheriff’s officials say a Chenango County man is being treated for a gunshot wound to the abdomen while a Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania man is facing several felony counts in connection with a home invasion in the Town of Maine February 13.

A resident of the home on Route 26, 23-year-old Jakev Jackson tells authorities he had gotten threatening messages earlier in the night before 23-year-old Kenneth Hughes of Greene and 25-year-old Brandon Sena=Bruzek of Montrose allegedly showed up around 8 p.m. at the home. Deputies say the pair allegedly had guns when Hughes was said to have kicked in the door and was confronted by Jackson, who was armed with a shotgun.

According to a news release issued at 3 a.m. February 14, Jackson shot Hughes in the abdomen when the Chenango County man pointed a handgun toward him.

Hughes and Sena-Bruzek fled the scene, traveling south on Route 26.

Deputies found Hughes in the vehicle a short distance away alert and conscious but with serious injuries to the abdomen.  He was taken to Wilson Hospital. His condition has not been released.

Sena-Bruzek was taken into custody without incident and charged with felony counts of Burglary, Criminal Use of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Aggravated Criminal Possession of a Firearm and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.

The Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is active and ongoing and adds, “It appears to be an isolated incident and there is no reason to believe the public is at risk at this time.”
