As we all know by now, Betty White passed away at the age of 99, just a few weeks before her 100th birthday. Almost everyone has some memory of her whether it's Mary Tyler Moore, Golden Girls, or Hot in Cleveland. What amazes me is that she plays two completely different characters on MTM and GG and she pulled them both off with ease.

So even though she won't be here on January 17th for her magical day, that doesn't mean that we shouldn't do something special in honor of this legendary actress. In fact, you can be part of something special.

As you may know, one of her biggest passions was the welfare and safety of animals. For the longest time, she had been outspoken about animal rights and she would partner with many organizations to assist them.

She would help get the animals adopted or would fight for humane rights. So on January 17th, fans of Betty White are going to honor her with the Betty White Challenge.

Betty White Challenge

You are encouraged to pick a local rescue or animal shelter and donate 5 dollars (or more) in her name, then hashtag it #BettyWhiteChallenge. The Broome County Humane Society, 167 Conklin Avenue in Binghamton is a good place to start.

I've adopted many cats from there and they are always looking for someone like you to adopt a cat or dog. You can also consider the Broome County Dog Shelter and Camp Barkalot, 110 Cutler Pond Road in Binghamton.

Another place is Willow's Wings Animal Sanctuary. They care for all animals that have been neglected, abused, or disabled. They like to rescue the misfit creatures of the world. We lost a legend late last year and here is a way to honor her memory.
