It's really no surprise that the 4th of July is the biggest day of the year for animals to run away because of all the fireworks that are being shot off. I know my dog, CJ was staying in the kitchen most of Saturday because of all the noisemakers that were being shot off. I didn't dare let him out because I didn't want him to run away either.

Sometimes the runaways end up in animal shelters and they become overwhelmed. To help, the BISSELL Pet Foundation has announced that it will be sponsoring adoption fees for both cats and dogs from July 10th through 12th at 160 shelters in 32 states.

Some of our local shelters will be benefitting from the BISSELL Pet Foundation covering adoption fees. They are:

Broome County Humane Society  - Binghamton
Chenango SPCA - Norwich
Tompkins County SPCA (SPCA of Tompkins County) - Ithaca

Thanks to the BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters event, you can adopt a new best friend for $25 or less. Are you more interested in fostering, the BISSELL Pet Foundation will also honor foster-to-adopt cases that start as fosters during the weekend of July 10th-12th and are finalized up to one week after the event.

More pets run away on the 4th of July than any other day of the year,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “The increase in shelter intake puts pressure on our partners, who are already working with limited staff and funding due to COVID-19. The best way for us to support them is to help their pets find loving homes.”
